Colonial Day

Kenzie playing a game the children would have played (bean solitaire). The only difference is that colonial children played on boards that the grid was etched on a piece of wood or something they would have scratched in the dirt and played with rocks, corn kernals or beans.

Today McKenzie celebrated Colonial Day in school. They turned their classroom into a one room classroom like they would have done in the Colonial Days--boys on one side and girls on the other. Each student was given a colonial name. McKenzie's colonial name was 'Fanny.' They spent the morning learning like the kids did back then. She wore the colonial dress and ate a colonial lunch. I packed her a sandwich on a homemade roll, apples slices and cheese sticks. It was fun for her to be able to play out that role. After lunch she did many Colonial activities. I was there to help her class dip candles, they made 'Jacob's ladders'-A colonial game, wrote with quills, churned butter and played pioneer style games like 3-legged races and stick pulling. It was an overall fun day for her and she was glad she got to experience it.'
